This course is an exciting opportunity for English subject leaders to join a well-established and thriving Network which for the rest of this year will be led by Andy Hawes.
Andy has worked in education for over 30 years. Prior to joining PLTA, he spent 15 years working as a learning & teaching adviser for Peterborough City Council specializing in the teaching of English and the use of assessment for learning strategies in the primary classroom. He is now enjoying bringing these specialisms to his work with PLTA. Andy is a highly experienced trainer. He has delivered a wide range of CPD sessions to a variety of audiences including teachers, teaching assistants, and middle & senior school leaders. He is equally comfortable working 1:1, with smaller groups or with larger groups.
Andy has long believed that the best way to raise academic standards is for all teachers and practitioners to become even better at what they do. To that end, for his own professional development, he is currently enjoying researching and exploring a range of strategies and approaches to develop the quality of challenge for those potential ‘greater depth’ pupils in reading and writing across KS1 and KS2.
Our English network meetings provide support and guidance for subject leaders as they drive forward high standards and innovative practice back in school, whilst also juggling the teaching and learning in your own class. We will share ideas with colleagues in a supportive and friendly environment to help you to develop your subject and ensure quality outcomes for children and staff.
The structure of the sessions will ensure that expertise from all subject leaders involved is effectively harnessed and provide opportunities for colleagues to work collaboratively. The main focus of each session will be agreed with subject leaders beforehand to make sure CPD opportunities are relevant and useful, as well as providing vital updates and information.
We’re excited to continue developing a network of teachers committed to collaborative working and high-quality outcomes for their pupils.
