Rutland Teaching Alliance is delighted to offer our exciting and highly successful Excellent Teaching – Outstanding Learning Programme.

The ETOL Programme provides teachers with a set of skills and strategies that enable them to make the biggest difference to their pupils achievement. It is open to teachers with the potential and drive to deliver consistently good to outstanding lessons. The bespoke programme has been created and will be delivered by local outstanding practitioners. Based upon the most recent research, it will give teachers opportunities to reflect on both their own practice and the whole school approach to teaching and learning within their own organisations.

Programme Structure

The programme will run over 5 half day sessions and one individual coaching session. It is delivered through face-to-face taught sessions and classroom learning walks within local high performing schools. This gives delegates the rare opportunity to watch learning in action in a wide range of settings. Each session focuses on a different aspect of learning and always involves time for reflection, discussion and sharing of good practice.

We have added a strengths coaching session with our certified strengths coach, Karen Muir. This is an opportunity to consider how best to implement the learning from this course and consider next steps regarding career and experience. This has proved to be a very popular and impactful addition to our offer.

Participants will be expected to complete post-session tasks back in their own school, to consolidate ideas from each session and apply them to their own context.

The core aims of the programme are to:

  • Develop a common language to discuss teaching and learning
  • Deepen understanding of key aspects of outstanding teaching and learning
  • Raise performance in the classroom by deepening understanding of strategies to secure visible progress
  • Encourage the teacher to become a more reflective practitioner
