Rutland Teaching Alliance Statement 13th November 2020

The Rutland Teaching Alliance is changing.

The Government have decided to slimline the teaching school approach and establish new, larger Super Hubs to replace the many smaller ones that currently exist. These Super Hubs are in the process of being appointed to ensure that there continues to be sufficient CPD for schools in all areas. School to school support will also be offered by the new hub.

As a result of this, on the 31st August 2021, the Rutland Teaching Alliance will cease to operate.  The alliance has had a fantastic 6 years growing in size, providing continuous professional development for teachers across our region and providing high quality school direct teaching placements for new teachers.  We have collaborated with all schools in our county and arranged for leading speakers to provide sessions in Rutland to ensure educational provision is the highest standard for our children.

It is with regret that we announce this, however we are pleased to announce that there is still the opportunity to train as a teacher in Rutland.

Initial Teacher Education

The School Direct teacher teaching currently offered will continue to run in partnership with Nottingham Trent University.
The primary teacher training will be led by The Rutland Learning Trust who will continue to offer an exceptional training package for future primary school teachers.
The secondary teacher training will be led by Rutland and District Schools’ Federation and will continue to offer a wide range of subject areas for new secondary teachers to train in.  The format of both School Direct courses will continue to run as they have successfully done, which has provided many high-quality NQTs for Rutland and the surrounding counties.

These are exciting times ahead.

Secondary School Direct Programme

The Rutland Teaching Alliance is a partnership of outstanding providers ranging from Primary Schools through to Higher Education Institutes. Our shared vision is to raise the achievement of all students within Rutland and to respond effectively to the professional needs of staff locally and within the surrounding counties. Our Alliance brings together a wealth of experience and expertise at all levels including those of National Leaders in Education. We are committed to developing and delivering a range of high quality professional development courses for teachers at all career stages. We are working in close partnership with Nottingham Trent University to significantly increase the number of ITT places in the region through our successful School Direct scheme. We have appointed a strong team of Specialist Leaders in Education who work in partnership with schools within Rutland. We are developing a culture of action research, so that educational change is closely linked to evidence on the ground.

The benefits of being an RTA trainee

School Direct is a unique route into teacher training. It is designed to ensure that trainees spend the maximum amount of time in the classroom developing the key skills required. The Alliance will provide a tailored Professional Development course throughout the year, in addition to the training received at the university.

School Direct Route

  • Working alongside outstanding teachers in an environment where students want to learn and facilities are fit for purpose.
  • Being mentored by experienced colleagues.
  • Qualifying with a PGCE from Nottingham Trent University, recognised by Ofsted as an Outstanding provider of Teacher Training.
  • Opportunities to observe and take part in cross-phase teaching within our partner schools.

Subject Knowledge Enhancement

Partnership with Nottingham Trent University

RTA is working in partnership with the Nottingham Trent University, recognised as an Outstanding provider of Initial Teacher Training. Together we offer School Direct applicants the opportunity to qualify with the internationally recognised PGCE. All trainees will spend one day a week at the university working with experienced tutors and trainees from around the area. This will be the time to learn more deeply about philosophies linked to education and key pedagogy. For further details about Nottingham please visit their website by clicking here.
